THE SCHIMKE FAMILY UPDATE
Greetings from Uganda!
We would like to thank you all from the depths of our hearts for your
prayers as we departed! The Lord knew that we would need them. They say
that timing is everything, and we managed to arrive at Heathrow airport
just as most of the European airspace system was shutting down. The
airport was a madhouse! The security demands were very high (of course)
and we were required to reclaim our 1000 lbs. of luggage (which was
definitely not in the plan!!). It took 6 hours to move from the
baggage area to the departures (only 300 ft. away). The airline was as
helpful as could possibly be expected, but the scenario simply
overwhelmed their system.
What was shocking was that we actually departed for Uganda! We thought
for sure that we were going to stay in the for a while. Flights to
Africa were allowed though, and we only departed an hour later than
scheduled. The Lord was truly merciful and gracious to us, protecting
us from intended harm and even allowing us to proceed on to with only
minimal delay. We were amazed and had an intense awareness that the
Lord had powerfully made a way for us to come to Africa . It is
plainly obvious that the Lord desires for us to be here!!!
The African Bible College campus is simply beautiful! There has
been some excellent planning, and extensive construction is
underway. Once you exit the gates though, getting around town is quite
the adventure. We have been shopping for a few things and going through
the bureaucracy of work permits, etc.
We are trying to get as settled as possible before the school year
ends. That involves house issues, home school, and training house help.
Marlene has been appointed Dean of Female Students, and Kurt is
managing the student evangelism program. This has been added to the
other duties that we have as teachers.
We're very thankful to be here, and also very aware of the hard task
ahead.
Thank you all for your support and prayers!!
It's amazing to be here.
Love in Christ,
Kurt Marlene, Zoe, Ana, & Nicholas
